6 Ways To Tell If Your Vegan Beauty Products Have Expired
How do you know if your natural beauty products have expired?
When it comes to food freshness and expiration dates, I play no games. When it comes to beauty and wellness products, I recently asked myself, how ON IT am I?
If you have plant-based wellness products in your cabinet, here’s how you can tell if they are good or need to be tossed:
Texture: If a product that should be smooth becomes unusually hard or changes texture, it’s likely a wrap!
Separation: Natural ingredients separate over time, especially if they contain oils. If the product separates and won’t mix back together after stirring or shaking it, it’s done.
Scent: Natural products are usually made with essential oils or plant extracts. If your product has oxidized or spoiled, the smell may be off. Chuck it immediately if you notice an odd smell!
Color: Over time, natural products can change color, but if you see that it’s discolored or has spots, it’s best to move on.
Sensitivity: If your beloved cream starts irritating your skin, that’s a sign that the expiration date has come and gone.
General gauge: No expiration date on your products? Label them with stickers and add the date that you bought them. Try to store vegan products in cooler, darker areas to preserve shelf life. Check in with the manufacturer on expiration dates. Our Mommafied body butters and scrubs last up to 6 months, as long as they are well sealed and kept away from moisture. Our sleep masks last about a year, as most masks naturally stretch as you use them. Hand wash, when needed!
