8 KICKBOXING INSPIRED AT HOME WORKOUTS
8 Kickboxing Inspired At Home Workouts
I used to hit the gym 4-5 times a week—doing high impact cardio classes, crazy bootcamps, pilates, hiking, and even aerial yoga. Totally obsessed! I exercised during both of my pregnancies, but regretfully was one of those people who didn’t quite understand why folks couldn’t ‘make time’ to get to the gym.
Then parenting hit! Annnd BAM—I’m one of those people who can barely get to the gym! It’s not that I don’t have the same desire, but between our kids’ activities, school drop-offs, finding childcare, and our work schedules, things can get complicated. On a good week, I’m in the gym twice, but if I’m being honest, recently it’s been about one day a week. Womp, womp.
But the good news is that I love my kickboxing gym—9Round Culver City. (Seriously, they’re not paying me to say that). I learned about 9Round when I lived in Louisville, Kentucky. My first born was two. I was a new mom and novice kickboxer, but they didn’t make me feel out of the loop when I stepped into the zone. I joined 9Round Culver City shortly after moving and having my son, last year. Their Culver City location has the same welcoming, nonjudgemental vibe. So far, I’ve not only lost inches, but also feel stronger. Although I’m still working on improving my sleep schedule, I feel a lot more energetic.
9Round workouts change daily, so the routine is always fresh and new. They have on-site trainers to assist you through the nine stations, to make sure that you’re doing each three minute exercise properly. There are no set workout class times and the sessions only last 30-minutes. (Although it’s an intense, play-no-games-let the sweat drip-30-minutes). Nutrition plans also come free with your membership, so—it’s a winner winner, muscle dinner. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist)…
Once my schedule changes, I’ll be alllll up in there— like I never left! In the interim, the 9Round Culver City crew was cool enough to share 8 Kickboxing Inspired At Home Exercises to keep me motivated between workouts. I worked with Randy Leworthy, one of their super cool trainers, to demo the exercises in the above video. We used simple props that you can find at home, like using water bottles for weights.
Real talk—we all know that at home workouts can never really take the place of getting into the gym or punching it out, at places like 9Round. (I thrive off of their bangin’ music and that sweaty comraderie you get when you workout in group settings). But for busy parents, travelers, or even budget crunched folks who can’t afford to access a gym, at home workouts can help you stay aligned with your fitness goals, and still feel good about yourself.
I must admit that shooting this video made me feel like “Yoooo-‘Chi-Ali’ is baaaackkk!” (My kickboxing alter-ego) Haha, I’ve missed her! I hope that you find it helpful. If you have any additional at home workouts that you enjoy, please share them in the comments below.
It’s a wrap!
