Want To Get Better Rest? Try These Sleep Tips For Busy Moms
Getting good rest these days takes more than just hittin’ the pillow after a long day. For us busy moms, there’s often a science to it. Did we finish work on time? What’s for dinner? Have we solidified a solid bedtime routine for the kids? Have we spent time with our partner? Have we had a moment to decompress? There’s so many components that factor into if we snooze on time, and get quality rest that we deserve.
So when Talesha Savage, of Mothering Tea, invited me to talk with her on IG Live, I was excited to dig in and share solutions. It was a pleasure to chat with a fellow Mommafied mom about sleep, wellness, and improving the quality of rest for busy moms. Lawd knows we need it! We dug into everything from food and meditation for sleep, to holistic remedies, sleep masks and healing teas.
Talesha is the Owner and Founder of Mothering Tea. It’s a Georgia-based loose leaf tea company that also hosts virtual tea parties for moms. Tea is one of her favorite forms of self-care. Talesha and I both seek to help moms prioritize their wellness and self-care naturally, by sharing tips and resources. We also have a similar story. Both of our homegrown products; her tea-boxes and my sleep masks were born after triumphing over burnout and personal obstacles. This made for an interesting and engaging convo. It was not simply filled with tips, but also inspiring anecdotes, laughs, and cool feedback from the audience.

Here’s a few of my favorite quotes from our conversation:
“Why can’t you get the rest that you need, when you’ve had a long stressful day and all you want to do is go to sleep? You have to look at the things that got you to this point. What are those challenges and how did you respond? It’s that mind-body connection that’s often overlooked.” ~Mommafied
“Someone posted about alcohol and sleep, (and said) ‘Oh yeah, this is my nightcap.’ But that really isn’t your nightcap! It doesn’t really help you get into that deep sleep that you’re aiming for.” ~Mothering Tea
“With (my sleep) masks, one of the main benefits is that it helps you get deeper sleep. REM sleep. There’s 5 stages of sleep and REM is the highest stage that you can get. It’s when you start to dream. It’s beyond where you start to repair muscles overnight. Clean out toxins— detox your brain. We need a certain percentage of that every day, or you’re not really able to function.” ~Mommafied
“I love Purple Tulsi (tea). It’s a wonderful herb. It’s called Holy Basil. It’s so good for helping with anxiety. Helping you ease into things. It’s something about the warmth of the mug that really grounds me.” ~Mothering Tea
We also mentioned the connection between motherhood, juggling multiple responsibilities, and stretching ourselves too thin to experience good sleep, or even a healthy routine.
According to eCounseling.com, stress and anxiety may impact sleep and our health more than we know. Holistic Health Specialist and eCounseling writer, Amy Shirley, dives into this topic in this info rich article: Stress and Deep Sleep: Is there a Link?. Check it out to learn more. eCounseling is also a great reference if you’re looking for an online or in person mental health therapist to help you work through anxiety that’s preventing you from sleeping.
